VP SUCCESS STORY The Engagement Founded in March 2000, LightCross, Inc. is a privately held, venture-funded optical components company that designs and manufactures advanced fiber optic networking components. LightCross has developed proprietary technologies that will enable the use of well-developed silicon IC fabrication equipment and processes to manufacture advanced optical networking components. The Search LightCross seeks to revolutionize the telecommuncations industry by integrating patented optical designs and processes with proven low-cost manufacturing equipment and techniques. To fully capitalize on the significant opportunity in what is projected to become a $9 billion market by 2004, LightCross identified the need for a Vice President of Worldwide Sales and Marketing to develop and implement all of their sales and marketing initiatives. In engaging with Paul Unger, Bob Barron, President of Lightcross, attested that Unger was "professional, well-organized, well-prepared for our weekly conference calls, and always available, including weekends for phone conversations." The Result Barron described the candidates that Unger presented AS "well-qualified and on the mark," and attributes the results to Unger’s "commitment and thoroughness, inclusive of his reference checks." When Unger introduced James Pinyan to the search committee, Pinyan was offered the position, accepted it, and started work within 30 days. Further testament to the success of the placement was the impact on the organization. Barron noted "the results were so good, that the candidate was promoted to my COO less than 90 days after start." Of Pinyan, Barron reflects: "He immediately got engaged with the team and the firm's issues. He rolled up his sleeves and took charge of addressing the difficult challenges. Perfect fit. He is well-regarded by the employees, the executive team and the BOD. Jim has provided extraordinary strategic thinking from a marketing and product strategy perspective. Also, he has professionalized our development process with program management and design reviews, as well as facilitated our engineering innovation by coaching our engineering staff." |
